One eSIM for Europe: travelling through several countries without swapping

Paris to Rome by train, a week in Croatia, a weekend in London. A European trip rarely stays in one country, and nobody wants to install a new eSIM at every border.
How a regional Europe eSIM works
A regional eSIM is one eSIM with agreements across many countries. When you cross a border, your phone drops the last network and joins a partner network in the new country, the same way it does at home when you move between towers. There is nothing to install or buy at the border.
The RoamMore Europe eSIM covers up to 43 countries, from US$3.40 (updated 27 Sep 2026). Check the exact list for your plan, with the network you will use in each country, on our Europe eSIM page.
Regional plan or single country plan?
| Your trip | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Two or more countries | Europe regional | One install, one balance, no gaps at borders |
| One country only | Single country plan | Often cheaper per GB |
| Mostly Balkans | Compare Balkans and Europe plans | Coverage lists differ, so check every stop |
| One country with a day trip across a border | Compare both | A short hop can still justify regional |
Live single country prices for popular stops: France from US$3.60, Italy from US$3.30, Spain from US$3.30, United Kingdom from US$3.30. The plan finder does this comparison for you if you add every country on your route.
Countries to double check
Europe is not one market, and some places are easy to miss:
- United Kingdom and Switzerland. Not in the EU, so do not assume every provider includes them. Both are covered on every RoamMore Europe plan.
- Türkiye. Included on some of our Europe plans but not all, so check the coverage list for the plan you pick.
- The Balkans. Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, Albania and Kosovo are not all on every European plan. We also sell a dedicated Balkans eSIM.
- Microstates. Monaco, Andorra, San Marino and Vatican City use their own or neighbouring networks. Check the list if you are staying there rather than passing through.
- Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. Small, but separate entries on most coverage lists.
Border crossings, trains and ferries
- Trains. Signal can drop in tunnels and remote valleys. That is the terrain, not your eSIM. Download tickets and maps before you board.
- Near borders. Your phone may connect to a neighbouring country's network before you cross. On a regional plan that covers both countries, this does not matter.
- Ferries and cruises. Close to shore you stay on land networks. At sea, ships run their own satellite networks, which travel eSIMs do not cover. Switch your home line's Data Roaming off before you board so it cannot connect to the ship's network and charge you.
If you lose signal after a border
- Wait a couple of minutes.
- Restart your phone.
- In the eSIM line settings, turn off automatic network selection and choose the carrier listed for that country.
- Still stuck? Message us on WhatsApp or email [email protected] with the country and what your screen shows.
More detail is in our landing day checklist, which works the same at any border.
How much data for a European trip?
Two weeks of Standard use (social media, photos, video calls) is about 14GB. Our cost and data guide has the full table, and the plan finder turns it into a plan in three taps.

Questions travellers ask
How many countries does the RoamMore Europe eSIM cover?
Up to 43 countries, depending on the plan you choose. The full list for each plan, with the network in each country, is on our Europe page.
Do I need to do anything when I cross a border?
Usually nothing. Your phone joins a partner network in the new country within a few minutes. If it does not, restart your phone or pick the network by hand in your eSIM settings.
Does EU "roam like at home" apply to me?
Only if your mobile plan is from a carrier in the EU. Travellers from New Zealand, Australia and most other countries pay their home carrier's roaming rates, which is why a travel eSIM saves money.
Will my eSIM work on a ferry or cruise?
Near the coast your phone usually stays on land networks. Out at sea, ships switch to their own satellite based networks, which travel eSIMs do not cover. Turn off Data Roaming or use airplane mode on board to avoid surprises on your home line.
Is a Europe plan cheaper than buying one per country?
For two or more countries, usually yes, and it saves installing several eSIMs. For a single country trip, compare the country price with the Europe price in the plan finder.
