Delhi and Varanasi, then on to Kathmandu. India and Sri Lanka in one trip, or Nepal with Bhutan. South Asia routes often cross a border or two, and the right eSIM depends on which countries are on yours.

What does one eSIM for South Asia cost?

How a regional eSIM works in South Asia

A regional eSIM is one eSIM with agreements across several countries. When you cross a border, your phone drops the last network and joins a partner network in the new country. There is nothing to buy at the border and no second QR code to scan.

The RoamMore South Asia eSIM starts from US$5.60 (updated 30 Oct 2026). It uses AirTel 5G in India, Ncell 4G or NT Mobile 4G in Nepal, Mobitel 4G in Sri Lanka, TashiCell 4G in Bhutan, Zong 4G in Pakistan, and Grameenphone, Banglalink or Robi 4G in Bangladesh. The full list is on our South Asia eSIM page.

The numbers, at our current prices: for India and Nepal, one 10GB South Asia plan (US$32.10) costs a little less than a 5GB India plan (US$13.40) plus a 5GB Nepal plan (US$21.30), and you can spend the 10GB in either country. For India and Sri Lanka, a 5GB plan in each (US$13.40 and US$11.90) costs less than the regional 10GB. For Nepal or Bhutan alone, the regional plan costs less than the country plan at both sizes.

Live country prices: India from US$4.60, Nepal from US$6.20, Sri Lanka from US$4.30, Bhutan from US$7.40, Bangladesh from US$4, Pakistan from US$3.70. Add every country on your route to the plan finder and it compares the regional plan with a plan per country for you.

Countries to double check

  • The Maldives. Not on our South Asia plan. We sell a separate Maldives eSIM, from US$16.10, and it costs more than the South Asia plan for the same data: 5GB for 30 days is US$73.
  • India and Sri Lanka. On the plan, and India is the only country where it uses 5G. Alone or together, an India eSIM and a Sri Lanka eSIM cost less than the regional plan for the same data.
  • Nepal and Bhutan. On the plan, which currently costs less than a Nepal eSIM or a Bhutan eSIM for the same data.
  • Bangladesh and Pakistan. On the plan, on 4G. We also sell a Bangladesh eSIM and a Pakistan eSIM.

Treks and the mountains

On the Everest region treks, signal is thin at altitude on every network, so expect gaps on any eSIM. Download maps and anything you need before you set off, and read our guide to eSIMs in remote areas for a backup plan when there is no signal.

Indian numbers and one time codes

Our eSIMs are data only, so they come with no local number. Calls and messages through apps work over the data. Some Indian services ask for an Indian number to send a one time code, and a data only eSIM has no number to give them. For codes from your bank and other services at home, keep your home line switched on, as our guide to keeping your home number explains.

If you lose signal after a border

  1. Wait a couple of minutes.
  2. Restart your phone.
  3. In the eSIM line settings, turn off automatic network selection and choose the carrier listed for that country on our plan page.
  4. Still stuck? Message us on WhatsApp or email [email protected] with the country and what your screen shows.

Our landing day checklist works the same at every border.

How much data for a South Asia trip?

Two weeks of Standard use (maps, social media, photos and video calls) is about 14GB. Our cost and data guide has the full table, and the South Asia plan also comes in 20GB for 30 days, at US$63.70.

Questions travellers ask

Which countries does the RoamMore South Asia eSIM cover?

India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Maldives is not on it. We sell a separate Maldives eSIM, and the plan finder only offers plans that cover every stop you add.

Is one South Asia eSIM cheaper than one eSIM per country?

It depends on the countries. At our current prices, one 10GB South Asia plan costs a little less than a 5GB India plan plus a 5GB Nepal plan, while a 5GB India plan plus a 5GB Sri Lanka plan cost less than the regional plan. The plan finder compares both for your route.

Will it work on an Everest region trek?

Nepal is on the plan, on Ncell 4G or NT Mobile 4G, but signal is thin at altitude on every network, regional or not. Download maps and anything you need before you set off, and plan for stretches without signal.

Will I get an Indian phone number?

No. Our plans are data only, so the eSIM has no local number. Calls and messages through apps work over the data.

Ready for your trip?

Every eSIM comes with a real person on email and WhatsApp, and a full refund within 30 days if it is not installed yet.
